Conflict of Interest with Powerlink’s Proposed Project
To: The SCRC CEO and Honourable Mayor Bob Abbott & Councillors elect.
The petition of residents of the State of Queensland and your constituents draws to the attention of the Sunshine Coast Regional Council
We, the undersigned, bring to the attention of the SCRC, that the subjective consideration and review of any alternative to the Ridgewood to Cooroy substation site rested solely with Powerlink and its retained consultant Parsons Brinkerhoff, an obvious conflict of interest, just as the assignment of quantative and qualitive values and the ultimate final route selection.
Added to the interests conflict are public dissatisfaction and mistrust, and reduced remedies when Powerlink’s proposed route strays from state-owned land and nearby highway routes contrary to logical patterns, practices and expectations to instead intrude upon private lands, protected flora & fauna habitat and destroying social values & businesses.
Your petitioners therefore request the CEO, Hon Mayor Bob Abbott & Councillors elect:
- To initiate a meeting with the Mines & Energy Minister Hon Stephen Robertson in view of halting the project until independent reviews by Council can determine the true impact of the proposal.
- To uphold aspirations of the SCRC Corporate Plan, it’s priorities and strategies incl ecological sustainability.
- That whilst the Threatened Species Scientific Committee (TSSC) is reconsidering the status of the koala at the national level, the koala habitat in currently threatened by the proposed Powerlink Alignment is fully protected while the reassessment process is underway.
