The route has been approved by the city’s authorities and is as follows:

Meet in Brisbane Square at 11 a.m.
Rally will begin exactly at 12 noon

March up George Street, down Edward Street, up Charlotte Street and turn into George Street again towards Parliament House.
In the meantime we need you to gather as many people as possible!

It would be great if you could have a lead banner showing who you are and what you want to say. We encourage your banners to be soft eg. core flute or cardboard, as Police are encouraging us not to have any hard surfaces for people’s safety.

Slogans should be:

Respectful (no dead Koalas please!)

Clever & Innovative; but

Concise, with a message to all levels of Government that we’ve had enough and want our Koala’s habitat protected.

Rally T-shirt’s are available for approx $15-$20, or you may wish to represent your own group. If you would like to purchase a rally T-shirt please let us know via reply email.

We welcome your ideas to make this Rally a great success to ensure the future of our Koala in SEQ. We are their last hope!

Yours sincerely

The second OSCAR AGM is set down for 6:00pm Thursday 1 October 2009 at
the Millwell Road Community Centre Maroochydore. An agenda with
location map and the minutes of the inaugural AGM are attached.

All elected positions become vacant and at the bottom of the agenda you
will see how to nominate by email. There may be a clear run for
Secretary because I am not standing for a second term.

The annual fee of $25 per affiliated association is now due and payable
at the meeting.

Please use any meeting of your own affiliated association that falls in
the interim to arrange a cheque and make any changes to your
representation for the next 12 months. Each affiliate is entitled to
two delegates to OSCAR. You can use the attached Membership Application
form to log any changes. New and retiring delegates are all welcome to
attend.

Our featured guest is Mr David Clark – see
www.thedaily.com.au/news/2009/aug/25/4000-council-trip-talk-about-rubbish/
He talks anything but rubbish and is best placed to give us an insight
into Councils regional strategy for waste management as landfills fill
and carbon carrots and sticks loom.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me for further information or explanation.

Regards, Peter Baulch
Secretary

Dear PAGE Supporter,

PAGE has organised a candidates forum to answer specific question on the Powerlink proposal and associated issues plus an opportunity for you to score them whether they have answered the questions adequately or waffled.

You will also have the opportunity to ask the candidates directly about what most concerns you on any topic in the lead up to the election on 21 March.

Don’t let this opportunity pass you by – get involved!

Date and time: Saturday 14 March from 4:30 – 6:30pm.

Where: CWA Hall, Eumundi.

What: Candidates forum

Invitations have been sent to each of the party’s candidates (Labor / LNP / Greens) with each party to nominate one candidate as spokesperson. The nominated independents have also been invited. All invited candidates are also welcome to attend and take part in the second half of the forum.

The format of the forum will be:

1. Background info and explanation / introductions by PAGE. Outline the project and the key areas we are interested in discussing. Introduction as to who is represented at the meeting (PAGE / SCEC / NPA / Others). One minute for each community organisation to say why they are interested in this issue and the relative size of their community group. Hand-over to MC. (estimated time 10 minutes)

The Powerlink Proposal

Each nominated candidate will have an equal amount of time to answer the questions 2 min max / answers will be timed by the official timer. After which they will be rated by the audience via a show of hands as to whether the question has been clearly answered in the affirmative / clearly answered in the negative / or not answered at all. The candidates and their audience rated responses will be shown on the screen. The candidates will be provided with a copy of the questions in advance of the forum.

3. Second section will be an open question and answer session with an opportunity for the audience to ask questions of the candidates on any topic (30 – 40 minutes depending upon need).

PAGE is conducting a workshop to help people respond effectively to the Powerlink draft EIS for their proposed transmission line and substation through Eerwah Vale, that is expected in the next few weeks. The EIS will be a large document, that can be unwieldy, intimidating and complex. The workshop will aim to help you to:

Understand the EIS process and the background to this process

Provide a template for you to complete your responses

Give ideas for you to make a submission on

Point out the types of things you should look for in the EIS

What the EIS says

More importantly what it doesn’t say

Give you an opportunity to ask specific questions

Explain the process from this point forward

The workshop is expected to run for 2 hours and will be presented by PAGE and Adam Presnell, B.Env.Sc, Director of ATP Environmental Consultants.
