Draft EIS delayed until after Christmas
By Save Eumundi Team • Dec 3rd, 2008 • Category: Draft EISPowerlink advises the draft EIS will not be released before Christmas. When it is released the consultation period will be 6 weeks and not the standard 3 weeks.
Save Eumundi Team is a group of people who are keen to see our environment protected and insisting that the Queensland State Government and its agencies (like Powerlink) consider viable alternatives rather than the business as usual approach to electricity generation and transmission.

You’ve got to wonder if Powerlink were going to advise the community of this or that we have to make our own enquiries.
I am no longer surprised by the actions – or more correctly lack of action – by Powerlink. Their arrogant attitude smacks of the bully boy antics they have continued to apply to the residents of Eerwah Vale, Ridgewood and West Cooroy. Sure, Powerlink does have a job to do, but I am sure that Powerlink’s responsibilities don’t extend to demonstrating an “arrogant attitude”, “tough talking”, “frivolous or flippant posturing” – or do they?
The manner in which Powerlink has approached our community is nothing short of damning. Not only did they advise initially that the draft EIS would be out by mid 2008, but then delay after delay arouses my suspicion as to what additional or new elements might be included in the draft EIS that were not addressed in the Terms of Reference (ToR) . The latter was supposed to define the draft EIS position. We were told that the issues raised by the residents would be addressed in the draft EIS.
The really interesting aspect of this whole fiasco is that Powerlink has now taken an additional 7 months (and counting) for a team of ‘professional project managers, technicians. legal-eagles and wordsmiths’ to rework something which they will give the community just 6 weeks to review, digest and reply. I don’t know about the reader of this article, but somehow, this just doesn’t seem right.
