Propaganda, Not Consultation

It seems that Powerlink is spending a considerable amount of its community consultation budget on propaganda, not consultation. What purpose does it serve to keep repeating to the community that electricity use has increased by 500% in more than 40 years? Is this to confuse the community about the estimated capacity of the new powerlines and substation that they want to install on the edge of Eumundi?

It is estimated that the capacity of the new infrastructure will be 5 times the amount of power currently provided to the northern end of the Sunshine Coast. That means 5 times the current development that currently exists from the Maroochy River to Pomona to Eumundi to Yandina. The most ambitious estimates by the State Government is that the whole Coast’s population will double by 2026 and almost all of that increase will be south of the Maroochy river.

Growth control and finding a sustainable population cap for the Coast is the most significant Local Government issue at present being discussed from Caloundra to Noosa. The most significant global issue at present is global warming and the need to reduce energy usage. So what is it for?

is a group of people who are keen to see our environment protected and insisting that the Queensland State Government and its agencies (like Powerlink) consider viable alternatives rather than the business as usual approach to electricity generation and transmission.
