How the media helps

We have had some excellent coverage in the local media.

And many of the local papers and magazines have invited us to write more letters and comments for publication. The more letters published, the more media interest there will be. Writing letters to the media and your politicians helps to put pressure on Powerlink and assists the State Government to see the significant level of community concern over this project. It will also encourage Powerlink to look at acceptable alternatives rather than the ‘unsustainable’ proposal being imposing on us now.

Also know, that every letter published in the media is captured by media watch groups. These are analysed and forwarded on to the interested parties i.e. Powerlink and the State Government.

So, the more letters and coverage we get, the more the pressure exerted on the Government and Powerlink to look at the issue. They effectively work on the basis of how much coverage and number of instances that a particular issue is being mentioned in the press. It is therefore essential that you:

  • Keep on writing to the media, your local councillor, State Government and your local MP
  • Encourage your friends and family to do the same, no matter where they live
  • Ask anyone else you may know and who have an interest in this area to do likewise, for example, people who visit here on holidays, business clients who enjoy this area and so on.

To assist with this, we have included the contact details of people to whom you can write in relation to this matter. Please know that this is not an exhaustive list and you may also have other ideas as to whom else you could write. The more letters and publicity that we can get, the better.

is a group of people who are keen to see our environment protected and insisting that the Queensland State Government and its agencies (like Powerlink) consider viable alternatives rather than the business as usual approach to electricity generation and transmission.
